Reliable Solar Dryer in Alluri Sitharama Raju (Araku and Paderu) for Coffee, Pepper, Turmeric and Millets
Alluri Sitharama Raju (ASR), the hill district of Araku and Paderu, is home to the famous Araku Arabica coffee, grown by tribal farmers in the misty Eastern Ghats. Black pepper grows as an intercrop in the coffee plantations, turmeric is the main cash crop for many tribal families, and millets, cashew and jackfruit are grown too. Most of the district’s people are tribal, and farming and forest produce are their main livelihoods. For growers and groups here, how you dry and handle produce after harvest can make a real difference.
A solar dryer uses the sun’s energy inside a closed, protected chamber to remove moisture from suitable produce, without leaving it open to dust, insects, birds or sudden rain.
Rudra Solar Energy, a solar dryer manufacturer based in Ahmedabad since 2006, has sold 47,000+ solar dryers and works with farmers, groups and commercial processors across India. If you are looking for a reliable solar drying machine for Alluri Sitharama Raju, we can help you check whether it suits your product, your location and your volume.
An honest word about the hills
ASR sits at high altitude and gets a lot of rain, most of it between June and October, along with mist and cloud. Solar drying works best with good sunshine, so drying here can be slower and less predictable than in the plains, and on rainy or misty days it may be limited. It can still work well in sunny months, especially in the lower and drier parts of the district. If you need extra operating options for wet days, ask us which configurations support them, because not every model has the same features.

How a solar dryer works, in simple terms
Produce is cleaned, prepared (cut, sliced or spread as needed) and loaded on trays. The sun heats the air inside the dryer, and airflow carries moisture away from the produce. Drying only removes moisture. It does not cook, roast, grind or pack your product. Those are separate steps if your business needs them.
Who can use a solar dryer in ASR
- Tribal coffee, pepper and turmeric farmers who want a more controlled way to dry part of their harvest.
- Girijan cooperative groups and Van Dhan Vikas Kendras handling forest and farm produce. See our Solar Forest Produce Dryer for minor forest produce.
- FPOs and FPCs, including turmeric producer groups.
- Women entrepreneurs and self-help groups starting a small dried-food or spice business. See our NRLM / SRLM partnership page and NGO partnership page.
- Small processors and MSMEs preparing value-added products.
Choosing the best-fit capacity
Rudra solar cabinet dryer configurations range from about 5 kg to 500 kg of fresh input per batch, depending on the model. This is the fresh produce loaded per batch, not the dried output or daily throughput. A small group can begin with a smaller unit, while an FPO or processing centre with regular volume may need a larger one. Do not buy on kilogram capacity alone: read our guide, Solar Dryer Technical Comparison Before Buying.
What affects your drying results
Drying time and final moisture are not fixed. They depend on the product, incoming moisture, size and thickness, tray loading, airflow, sunshine, temperature and humidity. Cloudy days, mist, heavy rain and cool hill conditions can slow drying down noticeably.
Support and schemes
Government and agency support for farmers in ASR changes from time to time, and some schemes cover post-harvest machinery rather than dryers. Before you buy, please check with the ITDA office in Paderu, the District Horticulture Officer and the Spices Board office whether any support applies to a solar dryer. We are happy to share technical details of our models to help with your enquiry.
