Customer:
Spice Processing Enterprise
Project Category:
Spice Processing Industry
Customer Requirement:
The client required an enclosed drying system capable of handling different spice-processing batches without depending entirely on open drying conditions. A major concern was maintaining appropriate drying conditions while processing materials that could differ substantially in moisture level, physical size and tray-loading behaviour. The client therefore required a system that could support: batch-wise spice drying organised tray loading controlled movement of drying air adjustment of operating conditions between products reduced direct exposure to dust and insects practical cleaning between different spice batches commercial-scale processing requirements The dryer also needed sufficient flexibility so that the processor was not restricted to one spice or one fixed operating condition.
Project Result:
Solar Dryer for Spices Project by Rudra Solar Energy
What we did:
Rudra Solar Energy approached the project by evaluating the moisture-removal requirement and airflow path through the loaded trays, rather than selecting the system only by fresh-product weight. The solar drying system was configured with an enclosed chamber and organised food-contact tray arrangement to provide a defined environment for spice drying. Special attention was given to: distributing product appropriately across trays avoiding excessive layer thickness maintaining airflow around the drying material allowing batch-specific operating adjustments managing moisture-laden air inside the drying process cleaning food-contact areas when changing products matching dryer configuration with processing quantity providing operating guidance according to the commodity Relevant Rudra configurations may use controlled or forced airflow and solar-powered DC fans. Exact construction, tray material and backup arrangement depend on the selected model. Project Result * The completed project provided the processor with a dedicated solar drying setup for spice-processing batches, replacing an unstructured drying approach with organised tray-based moisture removal inside an enclosed chamber. The system supported better control over: product distribution, airflow, batch handling and operating conditions. It also allowed the processing team to adapt loading and drying practices when changing from one suitable spice material to another rather than applying one standard drying procedure to every batch. Actual drying time and final moisture condition continue to depend on the product, preparation, initial moisture, loading depth, airflow, temperature, humidity, solar radiation and intended final processing requirement. The project strengthens Rudra Solar Energy's practical application experience in solar drying systems for spice-processing businesses, adding real project context beyond general product descriptions.

Project Description

Spice processing requires more than simply exposing a product to heat. Different spice materials can vary significantly in structure, moisture content, preparation method and the drying conditions required before further processing. For this project, Rudra Solar Energy developed a solar dryer for spices for a processing unit that needed a dedicated, enclosed system for batch-wise moisture reduction. The project focused on creating a more controlled drying environment where airflow, tray loading and operating conditions could be adjusted according to the spice being processed. Rather than following one drying schedule for every batch, the system was planned around product-specific requirements. Some spices may enter the dryer whole, while others may require separate preparation such as washing, cutting, slicing or curing before drying. The dryer itself performs the moisture-removal stage. Grinding, milling, blending and packaging remain separate downstream operations. This approach allowed the project to address spice drying as a processing application, not simply as another generic solar dryer installation.
